The consortium is a public-private partnership comprised of the six members that include Frontier Development Associates as the Lead Institution, the University of Zambia, Mulungushi University, Natural Resources Development College and the Zambian Agriculture Research Institute.
Frontier Development Associates
Frontier Development Associates is the lead institution in the AgBIT consortium. It is a private company investing in Zambia’s agribusiness sector, focusing on food value chains (fruit, vegetable, fish, dairy and meat products). The firm has extensive expertise in agribusiness development and pursues public-private partnerships to promote win-win equity ventures with small and medium scale enterprises. They specialize in developing inclusive business models and our development activities are designed to benefit those at the base of the pyramid.
The University of Zambia
The University of Zambia (UNZA) is the largest public university in the country, providing comprehensive and rigorous teaching, learning, research and scholarly programs in agribusiness and agro-technology development in the faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering. The University has more than fourteen faculties and directorates, including the Technology Development Advisory Unit (TDAU), which focuses on providing technology development solutions appropriate for small and medium enterprises
Mulungushi University is a public, multi-level curriculum, university offering a wide range of degree, diploma and certificate programmes in its 9 academic faculties, with a strong agribusiness and entrepreneurship training program at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Natural Resources Development College
The Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) is Zambia's top agricultural college with a strong agriculture extension and training program. NRDC offers Diploma level training underwritten by the University of Zambia. Training is offered both on a full-time learning basis as well as through open and distance learning.
